Why pumpkin may help

Pumpkin contains soluble and insoluble fibre. Fibre can absorb some excess water and add structure to the stool, while also supporting normal movement through the digestive tract.

Because dogs respond differently, start at the lower end of the feeding range and watch stool consistency before making any gradual adjustment.

A sensible first approach

  • Use only plain, 100% pumpkin powder with no sugar, salt, spices or sweeteners.
  • Introduce gradually and mix into the dog's usual food.
  • Keep fresh drinking water available at all times.
  • Do not exceed the label feeding amount.
  • Stop and seek advice if symptoms worsen or your dog reacts badly.

Is it suitable for an upset tummy?

It may support stool quality during a mild, short-lived digestive upset when the dog is otherwise bright and well. Diarrhoea has many possible causes, including diet changes, parasites, infection, stress and underlying disease, so pumpkin should never be used to delay veterinary assessment.
